Happy YOU Year!

If you are reading this, you're still alive which means you get yet another opportunity to create another Amazing New Year! Congratulate yourself...WooooHoooo! You ROCK!!

You have new ideas, new resolutions, you're gonna let go of the past and blow 2012 up like never before! Oh yeah baby, let’s do it, let’s make it happen!

Hold on a second wild child...before you start climbing your 2112 mountain, have a look at whose mountain you’re climbing. Many people are told by their company, significant other, children or even their mom and dad what their goals are going to be. Ask yourself, are they important goals for them or are they the goals that I want to achieve for me?

Did you know:

  • only 3-5% of our population globally actually writes down their specific personal goals?
  • just by writing something down you increase the percentage of achievement by 50%?
  • most people have a “To Do” list and when they don’t write something down, half the time it’s forgotten?
  • when you choose a goal, write it down, break it down, set a completion deadline and remind yourself each day of your goal, the percentage of achievement goes up to 100%?

Carefully setting and achieving personal goals is the ultimate recipe for happiness and time management is the answer. When you manage your time, you manage your life. And remember that a goal does not qualify as a REAL GOAL until it is written down, broken out, prioritized and inserted into your calendar. Otherwise, what you think is a goal is merely a thought, a wish, a hope, A DREAM!

The truth is that humans (THIS INCLUDES YOU) have more natural potential than they could possibly use if they could live a thousand lifetimes. YOU have INFINITE POTENTIAL and this is easily proven by observing all the amazing things that are invented and built, places that are traveled to and unbelievable personal accomplishments reached every day all over the world.

Common sense says "YOU WILL ACCOMPLISH WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT MOST." Soooooooo, WHAT DO YOU SPEND MOST OF YOUR TIME THINKING ABOUT?????

I hear a lot of people say “as soon as I get focused, THEN I will go for it” or “when I get the confidence, THEN I will go after my goal” I say "CHOOSE YOUR GOAL FIRST, FIGURE OUT WHAT YOU NEED TO DO and YOU WILL BE FOCUSED AND YOU WILL CREATE CONFIDENCE!!"

Here are 3 EXCELLENT SUGGESTIONS to get your butt on track, and to guarantee that 2012 will in fact be the best year of your life.
  1. Read this first then GO STAND IN FRONT OF A MIRROR AND LOOK INTO YOUR EYES. First, notice the content of the conversation in you brain as you look into your eyes (without breaking eye contact) and reflect back (take your time) on the past year. This is your opportunity to forgive yourself for everything that you did or didn't do that DID NOT WORK last year. Next, say out loud with some passion and enthusiasm "I'M STARTING MY LIFE OVER RIGHT NOW, I DID WHAT I DID, 2011 IS OVER AND I'M STARTING OVER RIGHT NOW!" Everyone knows that at any moment they can start over and now this moment is yours to take responsibility. Next, say out loud "STARTING NOW, I WILL STOP BLAMING CIRCUMSTANCES AND PEOPLE, I WILL STOP BEING UPSET, I WILL BE HAPPY, I WILL DECIDE WHAT I WANT, I WILL PLAN MY LIFE AND I WILL TAKE ACTION EVERY DAY!" You already know that when you take 100% responsibility, you will realize that you got yourself into every situation and entered into every relationship you are in. You made the choices so shut yourself up and take a stand. The starting point is to accept where you are and where you are not. Accept everything for the way it is and the way that it isn't. LET IT GO, BECAUSE TODAY YOU ARE MOVING FORWARD. Now, set a reminder in your phone to look in the mirror every morning at a specific time and say out loud with gusto, what you are going to accomplish that day..no matter what.
  2. Take your calendar out right now and schedule 1 hour of uninterrupted time. Give yourself permission to concentrate and then write down what you ideally want this year in the important areas of your life. Your greatest responsibility to yourself is to invest whatever time is required to become absolutely clear about exactly what you want.
  3. Start feeding your brain HIGH QUALITY INFORMATION EVERY DAY in the form of books, motivational and informational CD’s, skill development workshops or any on-line program. I know that you already know that YOUR THOUGHTS CREATE YOUR ACTIONS AND BEHAVIOR. Your ACTIONS AND BEHAVIOR CREATES RESULTS. If you want to change your results, first change your thoughts. Consistent, high quality information is like continuous software upgrades for the mind. When you feel your mind slowing down, run a new piece of software that cleans out the crap and aligns your thoughts back to your desire and goals. Safeguard your thoughts by feeding them reminders that will point you back to the path you want to be on.

Happy YOU Year!

Passion

“One of the things that may get in the way of people being lifelong learners is that they’re not in touch with their passion. If you’re passionate about what it is you do, then you’re going to be looking for everything you can to get better at it.” - Jack Canfield

Webster’s defines passion as ”capable of, affected by, or expressing intense feeling.” In other words, we have the ability to be alive and enthusiastic any time we want, even when we don’t feel like it.

For several years I have been curious about how to get people to be passionate about their work, their relationships and where they are going in life. I've devoted much of the last 22 years of my life to studying, researching and uncovering all the wonderful ways to turn on, then turn up, my "life's passion."

At first glance, getting passionate and moving forward may not be YOUR idea of fun yet I can tell you from personal, first-hand experience, passion is the driving force behind all of life's achievements and creations. Every human being has a longing to be passionate.

I have given hundreds of workshops and seminars across the United States and from personal observation; I have concluded that the biggest share of people are not very passionate. They aren't passionate about who they are (low self esteem), they aren't passionate about their job (boredom), they aren't passionate about their relationships (complacency), they aren't passionate about their future (no written goals). Have you ever encountered someone who is passionate, enthusiastic and alive? It’s like a breath of fresh air. Being around them is so refreshing.

Passion is the fuel for life and living. I think that many people are waiting to be passionate before they go for it in life. I think that many people are waiting for a better job or a heated relationship and they think when the right opportunity comes along, they will instantly become passionate.

If you are one of those who are waiting for some miracle to happen, my advice to you is to stop now. You already have the power to choose to become passionate about everything in your life right here in the moment. The only thing stopping you is your own thoughts so you might as well start practicing right now. Being passionate feels great too!

If you think it’s going to get easier later, you are only fooling yourself. It only gets later. So start today and practice taking yourself to the next level of excitement and passion. Allow yourself to feel alive and enthusiastic even if it’s embarrassing. Give yourself permission to break out of your emotional comfort zone and be passionate!

“To have passion, to have a dream, is to have a purpose in life. And there are three components to that purpose, one is to find out who you really are, to discover God, the second is to serve other human beings, because we are here to do that and the third is to express your unique talents and when you are expressing your unique talents you lose track of time.” - Deepak Chopra

Participation in Life

You say that you go for it in life yet, you know that you always don’t. You know that there is so much more that you can do if you really set your mind to it. If you were to admit it, the truth is that you don’t really live life. You pretend to live life and you make it look as though you are having a great time. You buy new toys and show them off to make it look as if you are successful and having a great time. You also talk to yourself (you may call it thinking) and you say “yes I do live life to the fullest” but deep down, you are not really happy. The real truth is that you don’t participate in life in the way that you ideally wish that you did. Yes, sometimes you push yourself to accomplish something and mostly, you don’t really challenge yourself in a way that you feel that you are making significant progress.

For most people to admit that they don’t really go for it in life would be like admitting one of their faults. It would be too embarrassing. People may have bad thoughts about you and their opinion would change from positive to negative. Very few people will admit this to anyone and will also dismiss any thought to this fact.

When you begin learning to look at yourself objectively and to begin to tell the truth, you begin the journey of life and you begin to live. On the other side of you telling the truth about you and your thoughts, feelings and life circumstances, you will begin to create more ideal conditions for yourself. It is out of you being willing to seriously look inward that will initiate change.

'AHA' Moments that Changed My Life

When I got out of college I was very excited about my future and when I landed my first job as a junior laboratory assistant with a national manufacturer, I was even more excited. Everything seemed to be going great until about a year later, the conditions in my life took a negative turn. I suddenly felt bogged down, tired, dissatisfied and not in love with my life or anyone around me. Soon after, I completely lost my motivation and became confused and very unproductive.

I couldn’t figure out why this was happening. I had fallen into the trap of living day-to-day in the routine of life. Waking up, driving to work, working, driving home, watching TV, going to sleep..then doing it all over again the next day and the next and the next. It was like the movie “Groundhog Day” and what made it worse was that it was happening to me not Bill Murray. I lived for the weekends and usually went out dancing with my friends or to a backyard house party with the stereo playing in the background. It was fun but even though there was all this weekend fun going on, deep down I was secretly only pretending to have fun while the truth is that I was worried a whole lot about my future and had started regretting much of my past.

One day, one of my little brothers and his girlfriend had the gall to suggest I get help and attend a personal growth seminar that I noticed had really helped them. They handed me a brochure, I glanced over the bold words that promised an amazing life of riches and unlimited happiness beyond my wildest dreams. I quickly rejected the idea and said “I don’t need anyone to tell me what to do or how to change my life.” The truth was that when I saw the price tag I almost choked and was too embarrassed to admit that I was too cheap and didn’t want to spend the money.

So, I changed jobs thinking that things would get better, they didn’t. I got divorced thinking that things would get better, they didn’t. I moved to the big exciting city of Chicago thinking that things would get better, they didn’t. Two years went by and things didn’t get better, they actually got worse. Then one day, I remembered my brothers suggestion to attend that personal growth seminar that I was too cheap to invest in my own life. Now, two grueling years later, out of desperation, I called my brother, asked him for the phone number and enrolled myself in a personal growth seminar that I was certain was not going to work for me. The killer was that the price had increased a couple hundred dollars and I was now two years behind schedule.

Two weeks later, after 4 days of intense reflection and a ton of mental and emotional resistance, something amazing happened to me..I had several of the biggest ‘AHA’s’ of my life! With every cell in my body I knew these were no normal short lived inspiring moments. These were insights so intense that to this day, I thankfully haven’t recuperated.

Upon leaving the seminar, I quickly realized that all of the unwanted conditions in my life were exactly the same as when I went into the seminar but with one major difference. All my ‘AHA’s were aligned and securely attached to my mind, body and soul. I felt like the luckiest person in the world to have created the amazing opportunity to turn it all around. Those first ‘AHA’s have allowed me to live my life from a position of control, purpose and clarity. My life is more amazing, happy and rich than anything I ever imagined it would.

After volunteering for years in that same personal growth organization, I created my own ‘personal growth’ seminar and when people tell me how their life is not all that it could be, I have the gall to suggest that they get some help and attend a personal growth seminar. Guess what they say? Life sure is interesting! :)

Unexpected Change

Even though many of my students have created a solid initial life plan, everyone knows that a plan has to be revised over and over and developing a solid back-up plan is also part of life. Why? Unexpected change. Restructuring, mergers, recession, relocation, political uprisings, social unrest, health issues, death, natural disasters. The list is endless.

It’s interesting to notice that 95% of the people I meet don’t have a strategic life plan. There is no one to blame. People are either very busy with college, dealing with their current life choices or they’re stuck mulling over their sorted past. The result is that the same 95% don’t have a clue what they want to be doing in 2-3 years, let alone 10 years. And, with all of the global uncertainty in today’s world, it’s no wonder people are struggling. So this has become the norm. It doesn’t have to be that way though.  Until I got desperately serious about creating my plans, I did exactly the same thing. I used to think that as soon as I get my current situation handled or when I clean-up my past, then I’ll make a plan. Let me tell you, I wasted so many years of my life, it’s embarrassing to admit.

Even a solid short term plan would be an excellent starting strategy and those who actually take the time to write out even a basic plan become noticeably more confident and worry a great deal less about their future. I’m now recommending to everyone that a backup plan is mandatory. If you read the news or watch TV you know there is no protection from change. There is nothing that can protect you from losing your job or from some catastrophic, live altering natural event. The proof is happening every day on every continent on this planet.

What our parents used to call a secure job, is now extinct. Changes are so dramatic and if you get to the level of owning or operating a small business, you soon realize how fragile your business is against economic, social, political or legal changes that can suddenly throw you into bankruptcy. Life simply doesn’t come with guarantees.

This amazing guy named Alvin Toffler, wrote a book titled “Future Shock” that was published way back in 1971. He predicted massive global changes that at that time were revolutionary and considered by some ridiculous. Many of the changes he predicted arrived so fast that he published a second book titled “The Third Wave” to catch up on the unexpected change that had already happened. Toffler did an exceptional job describing the huge changes occurring around the world and most people were completely unaware of how those changes would affect their lives and very few people took his predictions seriously. Looking beyond external changes, now looking inward, there are unexpected changes within you and you may reach a point where your life goal or your career is no longer challenging or personally fulfilling.

Now is the time to reflect. Now is the time to make an accounting, take action and get some solid plans on the table. Otherwise, life will pull you in any direction it pleases.

Is unexpected change pulling your life? How is it impacting your future, your family? Are you ready? What’s your “Unexpected Change” plan? Do you want one? Do you need one? What are you doing about it? What will you do about it? When?

Goals Must Me Motivating

It may be a cool thing to think that your life goal is totally worthy and contributes to serving humanity but if you’re not leaping out of bed every morning to go out and fulfill it each day, you might want to rethink what you thought your life purpose or your true intention really is. No other person can define a life goal for you or impose one on you. Your goal must come from inside you and the choice is yours alone. Most of all, I recommend that you have one that you can use to 'make' you motivated about your life.

Some goals, such as accumulating personal wealth or achieving a powerful job position are considered by many to be only self serving. That’s true if your ego is in charge of your life or you are working only for your survival. If you are accumulating personal wealth or want to achieve a powerful job position that is in service to life on our planet, then my opinion is that you are headed in the right direction.

For many years, I worked in jobs that I knew were only satisfying my survival needs and in the beginning, it wasn’t very motivating. The thing that really helped me was that in addition to having a survival job, I had learned that a self-actualized person intentionally chose a life purpose that was in service to humanity and my goal was to have the characteristics of a self-actualizing human being. The purpose I chose was “to improve our world for all of us.” Now, having a life purpose in service to humanity forced me to really look for ways that my survival job was about service.

For example, before I started my own Audio Visual company, I worked for one of the largest A/V companies in Chicago. Since I like to talk a lot, I was an above average sales person. My intention was to make a lot of sales, charge the maximum amount of money and reap the biggest commission. Surprisingly, it worked and this impressed the management so much that I was given awards and recognition at our monthly and annual sales meetings. But deep inside, I felt nervously out of alignment with my life purpose. So I started to look for ways that got me to see how my products were benefiting and serving my customers. In less than a year, my sales almost doubled. Why? Because my whole way of communicating to my clients changed. My words, my enthusiasm and body language was about serving. The cool thing was that I earned higher commissions and was now highly motivated by my life purpose.
